While the diamond can be considered one of nature’s most remarkable feats, its dazzle compares little to its strength and resilience. A diamond represents potency and influence. In ancient times, a diamond was even thought to have healing powers. As the Medical Research Institute Council (MRIC) of Children’s Memorial Hospital approaches its 60th anniversary, the diamond and all it encompasses seemed to be a natural choice to represent their annual end-of-the-year fund-raiser, which expects more than 1,200 of Chicagoland’s glittering philanthropists.

On Saturday, December 10, the MRIC will celebrate the 2011 Children’s Ball, entitled “Diamond: 60 Years of Brilliance” at the Hilton Chicago. “The MRIC was founded 60 years ago but has been affiliated with Children’s for the past 20 years,” explains co-chair Beth Gross of Highland Park, who shares the planning and coordination of this tremendous event with Susan Pluss of Burr Ridge. “Prepare to be dazzled! It will be an evening to sparkle and shine—expect fabulous company, phenomenal entertainment, and a profound sense of making a difference in a child’s life.”

For years, Children’s Memorial Hospital has set the five-diamond standard for treating children in the Chicagoland area. The MRIC, the principal benefactor of the Children’s Memorial Research Center, is proud to be a part of the “bench to bedside” process of improving children’s lives with medical breakthroughs made possible through their work and fund-raising. The doors open to the new Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital on June 9 of next year, bringing about a new era of inspired research, enhanced state-of-the-art medical equipment, proximity to other downtown health care facilities, and a brilliant, dedicated staff.

Those who attend the Children’s Ball can rest assured that their concentrated efforts for the evening go right back to where it belongs: the pediatric research team at Children’s Memorial Research Hospital. “The work they do translates into clinical trials that are completely cutting edge,” says Pluss. “This is a passionate and committed group of researchers who have dedicated their work to improving children’s lives.”

Tickets for the 2011 Children’s Ball begin at $800 per person. To purchase tickets, call 773-880-6988.
